(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- This year's Polar Express Train Ride at Union Station is canceled due to staffing issues.

A statement from Amtrak says the company needs to give staffing priority to public services, especially during the holidays.

The Polar Express Train Ride website says the issue is part of a "system wide shortage of railroad personnel" that caused a lack of operating crews for the Polar Express ride.

The website also says they understand what the activity means for families and "we will do everything we can to return to Chicago in 2023."

The Polar Express Ride is still running in other cities throughout the country.
