Soldotna Grapples State’s Best At Lancer Smith Tournament

The largest collection of high school wrestlers, from all divisions of Alaska wrestling, battled at the Lancer Smith Invitational Wrestling Tournament held at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.

 

The Soldotna Stars, crowning five individual weight class champions, earned the overall boys team title outscoring South Anchorage 251.5 to 182.

 

Individual champions for the Soldotna Stars boys included:

Ezekiel Miller won the title at 125 pounds with a 7-4 decision over Lathrop’s Riley Williams. Scott Michael at 140 with a technical fall over Lathrop’s Aaron Peterson. Isaac Chavarria at 152 in a 7-2 decision over Samuel Chaput of South. Hunter Richardson at 189 with a 13-0 major decision over James Shivers of South. Liam Babitt at 215 with a 10-6 decision over Pete Macchione of West Valley.

Other Top-Five Finishes for Central Peninsula wrestlers:

SoHi’s Jacob Strausbaugh, 2nd place at 112 lbs.; SoHi’s Trevor Michael, 2nd place at 145 lbs.

Kenai’s Andrew Gaethle, third at 152 lbs. and Daniel Steffensen, fourth at 130 lbs.

SoHi’s Samuel Strouse, fifth at 103 lbs. and Michael Dickinson, fifth at 130 lbs. and Collin Peck, sixth at 171 lbs.

Nikiski’s Mayaac Schmit, fifth at 285 lbs.

 

Lancer Smith Girls Tournament Results

Lathrop won the girls team title with 157.5 points,; Soldotna placed third with 130 points.

SoHi’s Trinity Donovan won the girls 145 lb. title, recording pins in every match.  SoHi’s Daisy Hannevold placed second at 138 lbs.; Angelina Chavarria placed fourth at 114; Kaytlin McAnelly placed fourth at 132; Alyssa McDonald placed fourth at 165 and Jessica Leclair placed fifth at 107.

For Kenai, Jenna Yeoman placed sixth at 152. For Nikiski, Destiny Langston placed sixth at 235.
