Arrest During Last Call at Koronazz Leads to Death of Tom Green Co. DA Investigator

SAN ANGELO, TX – New information released on Wednesday morning revealed more information on the death of the former investigator for the Tom Green County D.A.'s Office.

As previously reported, on Nov. 13, Steven Carnes, 53, of San Angelo, suddenly died while attempting to make an arrest. For the original article see: Criminal Investigator for the Tom Green County D.A.'s Office Passes Away Suddenly

At the time of the original story it was only known that Carnes died after a ttempting to make an arrest. New information revealed that the death occurred moments before the bar he was working at closed down for the night.

According to the San Angelo Police Department at around 1:52 a.m. officers with the SAPD were dispatched to 4611 S. Jackson, Koronazz, to assist an agency with an arrest. When they arrived they learned that Carnes was working at the location as private security.

While on the clock Carnes attempted to make an arrest on an unidentified suspect. While assisting in the arrest, the officers saw that Carnes was having a medical emergency. An ambulance was called to the scene and Carnes as rushed to Shannon were he died.

SAPD's Criminal Investigation Division conducted a death investigation but found that Carnes' death was not criminal in nature.

No arrests were made during the course of this incident, but charges may be filed at a later point in time for the offenses made prior to Carnes’ medical emergency.

Carnes served nearly 30 years in Law Enforcement and was currently commissioned as a Criminal Investigator with the District Attorney’s Office.
