Commission declares Good Neighbor Day

Nov. 14—TIFTON — "Love thy neighbor" is the theme of the Tift County Commission's newest proposed event.

In a proclamation read by Tift County Commission Chairman Tony McBrayer, the county expressed its support for Annual Good Neighbor Day for Nov. 26, an initiative created by John Woodruff.

The event will honor the service and good deeds of community members who support their fellow residents, and, as Woodruff said, will encourage others to spread kindness to their neighbors.

Woodruff said he was inspired to honor and celebrate neighbors following his own neighbor helping him through a tenuous medical issue.

"My appeal is that we come together as a community, reach out to each other and love and care for each other," Woodruff said.

Should it prove successful in Tift County, he said he hopes to expand the reach of the program to the entire state.
