The race for Minnesota Secretary of State has been called, with Democrat Steve Simon winning his third term in office.

Simon, first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, was a DFL member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 46B. He was first elected to the chamber in 2004, and was re-elected five times. During his tenure in the state House, Simon served as assistant majority leader.

Crockett was critical of Minnesota’s voting process during the campaign and referred to the 2020 election as a "train wreck" and "lawless." Crockett, an attorney who previously worked for the conservative think tank Center for the American Experiment, hasn't been willing to say then-President Donald Trump lost Minnesota, where he finished 232,000 votes behind Joe Biden.

Crockett was asked during a debate on WCCO Radio if she would accept the Election results.

"I think that's kind of an odd question," Crockett said. "We aren't there yet, we're weeks out. And we'll just have to see what happens between now and the certification of the election."

Simon said throughout the campaign Crockett’s criticism and claims of fraud were unfounded.

“It's okay to have questions about our election system, and hard, tough questions,” says Simon. “That's perfectly fine. But it is also important to come to an agreement on what that system is, and how it works.”
