Three Pentucket Regional Middle School Eighth Graders Become Project 351 Ambassadors
Three eighth graders from Pentucket Regional Middle School were recently selected as the district’s 2023 Project 351 Ambassadors. Tyler Stone, Lyla Travers and Conor Price were chosen for their ethic of service and values of kindness, compassion, humility and gratitude, said Superintendent Justin Bartholomew and Principal Terrence Conant. Project 351 is a nonprofit organization that empowers a youth-led movement for change powered by an eighth-grade student representing every city and town in Massachusetts.
Groups May Begin Applying for Haverhill Mental Health and Youth Activities Grants March 1
Experts say the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the educational, social and physical well-being of Haverhill’s younger population. As a result, for the second year in a row Haverhill is distributing grant money to various non-profits and other agencies offering programs to help low- and moderate-income youth facing those issues. On Tuesday, Haverhill city councilors heard from representatives of Anser Advisory Consultants, a Boston-based counseling group hired by the city to help allocate and distribute money to appropriate agencies. Andrea Lombardi a spokesperson for Anser Advisory explained how last year’s grant total of $500,000 was allocated.

YMCA Regional Executive Director Tracy Fuller, introduced by School Committee member Richard J. Corporators Approve Combining Parents of Newburyport Bank and Pentucket Bank
Corporators of both of the parent companies of Newburyport Bank and Pentucket Bank Wednesday gave unanimous approvals to plans for a single mutual holding company. Following the favorable votes, the banks are seeking regulatory approvals from the Board of Bank Incorporation and the Federal Reserve Bank, the final step in the process of combining their mutual holding companies into one. Firefighters Extinguish West Newbury Fire, Saving Barn and Goats; Began in Compost Bin
No people or animals were hurt as firefighters quickly contained a West Newbury barn fire Sunday that appeared to have begun in a compost bin. West Newbury Fire Chief Michael Dwyer his department, with help from Groveland, stopped an outside fire from causing serious damage to a 74 Maple St. barn with goats inside. Firefighters were dispatched at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, for a report of fire showing from a barn in the rear of the property. Arriving firefighters confirmed visible flames and requested mutual aid resources at the scene.
Police Arrest Second Man Said to be Connected with Sunday Murder, Armed Robbery in Methuen
A second man, believed to be connected to last Sunday’s deadly shooting in Methuen, was arrested Wednesday while awaiting a flight out of New York City. Twenty-two-year-old Kelvin Francisco-Perez of Lawrence was arrested by Customs and Border Patrol agents and Port Authority Police while awaiting a flight at John F. Police Charge 17-Year-Old Methuen Man with Murder in Sunday Morning Shooting Death
A 17-year-old Methuen man was arrested Tuesday and charged in the shooting death of another Methuen man early Sunday. Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Methuen Police Chief Scott J. McNamara said Tuesday Adrian Isabel surrendered Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with murder in connection with the killing of 31-year-old Carlos Bello.
