The transfer and squad plans for the summer are already underway at Bayern Munich. After delivering a great transfer window this year, Hasan Salihamidzic is already focussing on the future. The former Bayern midfielder is currently looking to get more clarity in the goalkeeping department.

Salihamidzic was spotted leaving for Monaco last week to hold talks with Alexander Nubel. The 25-year-old goalkeeper is currently in the second and final year of his loan spell with Monaco. As things stand, he will be returning to Bayern next summer.

However, Nubel is open to leaving Die Roten permanently in the next summer transfer window. The former Schalke shot-stopper is not keen on playing second fiddle to Manuel Neuer at Bayern. He is open to staying at Monaco or exploring other options to get consistent playing time at the senior level.

Salihamidzic and Bayern want to keep Nubel as they want him to become the long-term replacement of Neuer. The Bavarian club is eager to extend his deal, but the German goalkeeper has no plans to sign a contract. It does look like Die Roten will not sell him in the summer and send him out on loan. While talking to Sky Sports over the weekend (via iMiaSanMia), Salihamidzic confirmed that Nubel will not be returning to Bavaria in 2023.

"“We currently have Manuel Neuer who is outstanding. Neuer will definitely play another two or three years and Sven Ulreich will also be there. Alexander Nübel will not come back in 2023.”"

Sky Sports has also insisted that Nubel will only consider signing a new deal if he becomes first choice goalkeeper at Bayern from 2024. Monaco will be the frontrunner to sign Nubel for another year since he has been a crucial player for the French club over the last 18 months. His performances have also steadily improved at the Ligue 1 club.

Manuel Neuer has shown no signs of decline, which makes it difficult for Nubel to get meaningful playing time at Bayern. The 36-year-old goalkeeper continues to deliver world-class performances and remains a vital member of the dressing room.

Despite Neuer’s quality performances, Bayern may have to start thinking about his long-term successors. They can delay a decision on Alexander Nubel by convincing him to go out on loan for one more year. However, the 2024/25 season will be the ideal time for the transition. Nubel can play the majority of games, while Neuer can be rotated accordingly.

Salihamidzic also insisted that Sven Ulreich could sign a new deal. Ulreich is eager to extend his stay in Bavaria beyond this season. If Alexander Nubel goes out on loan, then extending Ulreich’s deal by a year makes sense. Nevertheless, a big reshuffle in the goalkeeping department is likely by the end of next season.
