(Fargo, ND) -- Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon says the state is in "good shape" when it comes to election security.

"We have an excellent record, and we have steps in our process before, during and after elections which really guarantee trustworthy ness and those have served us really, really well," said Simon.

Simon, who is running for re-election, was asked about election security while appearing Friday on WDAY Mid Day. His republican challenger, attorney Kim Cockrett has frequently questioned election integrity in the state while campaigning.

"There is a reason that Minnesota has been number one in America in turnout for the last three elections in a row. There are many reasons I should say but one of them is that people know in their gut, in their heart that our system is clean, they know it's honest, that's why they keep showing up in droves," said Simon.

Simon is completing a 4-day bus tour around the state as part of a last minute effort to get out the vote. He traveled with Governor Tim Walz, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, and Attorney General Keith Ellison.

Simon was first elected as Secretary of State in 2015.
