STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 42-year-old New Brighton man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with a stabbing in Brooklyn that left a 37-year-old male victim dead more than a month ago.

Edwin Pedroza of the 100 block of Lafayette Avenue also faces a criminal possession of a weapon charge.

Police have identified the victim as Joan Nunez of Brooklyn.

On Sept. 20, around 10:25 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress in front of 248 4th Avenue. Officers observed the victim with a stab wound to the abdomen and neck, according to a statement from the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

An investigation determined that a verbal dispute ensued between the victim and Pedroza inside the location. As the dispute escalated, the individuals exited the store.

Pedroza allegedly displayed a knife and stabbed the victim, police said.

Surveillance video released by the NYPD depicts the suspect with a knife amid the verbal argument.

According to the Daily News, the dispute in the smoke shop began over holding the door.

EMS responded and transported the 37-year-old victim to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Attorney information for Pedroza wasn’t readily available as of Friday afternoon.
