The Sheridan Street bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway is fully closed for approximately 90 days on Monday June 13, 2022 in Hollywood. The Florida Department of Transportation project includes installing bicycle-friendly / anti-slip walking plates along the moveable spans, removing existing curb and adding a 4-foot traffic railing between the sidewalk and roadway, removing and replacing the outer pedestrian railing, adding new pedestrian gates in each direction, renovating the existing tender house, upgrading electrical and mechanical components and access platforms on the bridge.

The Sheridan Street drawbridge in Hollywood won’t be opening later this week as previously scheduled.

The bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway will now remain closed through Wednesday, Oct. 26, as a $12.2 million renovation project was temporarily put on hold for Hurricane Ian, the Florida Department of Transportation said in an emailed statement Wednesday.

FDOT said in late August it would be closed through Oct. 15, citing supply chain issues and bad weather as delays. Initially, the bridge was scheduled to be closed through September.

The project, which began in January, includes installing anti-slip walking plates, adding a 4-foot traffic railing next to the sidewalk and new pedestrian gates, replacing of the outer pedestrian railing and upgrading electrical and mechanical parts. The department estimates renovations will be done in early 2023.
