3 Worcester restaurants place on Yelp’s 100 best in New England

Shawarma Palace in Worcester moved to a new downtown location across from Worcester City Hall.

Three Worcester restaurants have ranked on Yelp’s list of the top 100 eateries in New England.

Shawarma Palace placed the highest at number 18 on the list. Fatima’s Cafe placed 27th and Belmont Vegetarian placed 82nd.

Shawarma Palace, located downtown at 20 Franklin St., opened in 2014 by owner Charles Dalli, according to its website. The restaurant serves traditional Mediterranean cuisine including sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads and shawarma plates.

“We prepare all of our dishes in the old-world style, which demands more work but shows in the results,” the website says. “Our menu is composed of all sorts of Levantine, Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern and Lebanese cuisine expertly crafted and always fresh. We strive to procure local, responsibly-grown & ethically-raised produce & meats for all of our offerings.”

Fatima’s Cafe offers East African cuisine at its 43 West Boylston St. restaurant. Menu items include hilib ido, a lamb sandwich on pita bread; ugali, a traditional Kenyan cornmeal-based meal; and Ethiopian anjero, a type of flatbread served with stew.

Belmont Vegetarian, located at 157 Belmont St., was named one of the best vegan restaurants in the U.S. and Canada by Yelp earlier this year. They specialize in rice plates with vegan proteins and vegetables.

Other Central Massachusetts restaurants which made the list include Pruller Restaurant in Marlborough (16th), NOLA Cajun Kitchen in West Boylston (24th), Hillside Grill in Northborough (71st) and The Metro Bistrot in Southbridge (74th).
