A popular downtown Worcester café abruptly announced its closure on Tuesday.
Doughnuts & Draughts, located on the corner of Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard posted to its Facebook page on Tuesday announcing that it was now permanently closed.
“We are sorry to say as of Oct 11th we have closed our cafe. Thank you for all the years of support. We will miss you all,” the post read.
The café opened as the Paris of the ‘80s Café in 2013 next to the Palladium and then became just the Paris Café before co-owners Chris Besaw and Gina Migliozzi rebranded the business as Doughnuts & Draughts in 2018.
Through each iteration, the café was a popular spot for lawyers and Worcester Courthouse workers across the street as well as downtown office workers. It offered coffee, lattes, gourmet sandwiches and other items before introducing gourmet doughnuts and alcohol.

The owners gave no immediate reason for the closure on Tuesday. On Oct. 3, the business posted to Facebook that it was opening late due to some technical difficulties and posted later that it was taking cash only. The following day credit sales resumed.
Foot traffic to many Worcester businesses has not rebounded to full pre-COVID levels, many businesses tell MassLive. Another popular Main Street breakfast and lunch spot, Z Café, closed earlier this year, citing the lack of the large lunch crowds it served pre-pandemic. A Japanese restaurant, Oishi, has moved into its place.
