Kathleen Gati first got her start as Dr. Liesl Obrecht on General Hospital a decade ago, and now she is opening up about that one relationship storyline she can’t get behind.

Originally appearing as the antagonist who assisted iconic villain Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) in holding Robin Scorpio-Drake (Kimberly McCullough) and Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan) hostage, the actress told Soaps.com that she was never a fan of her character’s relationship with Hove’s, though she noted that the actor behind Faison was “lovely to work with.”

Why, you may ask? Gati pointed out that “television is hugely influential media” and people look toward them to be examples. She continued, “The years and years that Obrecht allowed abuse from Faison, I was very uncomfortable with,” adding that she wasn’t a fan of the many situations her character put up with when she “should never have.”

The actress revealed that in her heart, she wanted the “abuse to stop,” pointing out that Obrecht is a “strong character.” She said, “She picks herself up, no matter what, and moves on.”

While Faison was killed off of General Hospital in 2018, nearly 30 years after he first showed up on the series, soap operas have a tendency to resurrect characters — even when we think we’re absolutely sure they are dead. However, Gati doesn’t think her character, who also shares two children with Faison, “will, or should, ever go back” to him.

She added, “The story and the characters had to end for the audience.”

General Hospital airs on weekdays at 3 p.m. ET on ABC.
