This Mediterranean restaurant chain is expanding in Alabama

Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant chain Cava opened its first location in Montgomery last month. Weeks later, the chain opened a storefront in Birmingham at Brook Highland Plaza along the U.S. 280 corridor. The restaurant replaced the former Zoe’s Kitchen, which closed over the summer, reported the Birmingham Business Journal.

Founded in Rockville, Md., Cava has nearly 200 restaurants around the country, as well as a line of chef-crafted dips and spreads sold in more than 250 Whole Foods locations and specialty grocery stores. In 2018, Cava bought Zoe’s Kitchen. At the time, QSR Magazine reported the acquisition was valued at about $300 million.

The opening of Cava’s location in Birmingham was the beginning of the chain’s entry into the Birmingham market. The Birmingham Business Journal reports Cava also has a location coming to 20 Midtown in downtown Birmingham, as well as a location coming to Homewood’s Soho at 1830 29th Ave. S.
