NK Salvation Army to offer holiday assistance, coats

The New Kensington Salvation Army is accepting applications in-person by appointment for assistance for holiday food and gifts for children 13 and younger and Project Bundle Up coats for children younger than 18 and seniors 62 and over.

Appointments will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 27, noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 and 24, and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 18 and 25 at the New Kensington center, 255 Third St. Applications will also be accepted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at Parks Volunteer Fire Department, 1119 Dalmatian Drive, in the Kepple Hill section of Parks.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come and most-need basis. Bring identification, proof of household income and expenses and children’s birth certificates. 1920s event to benefit historical society, Elks charity

A 1920s evening, “Prohibition Night” to benefit Tarentum Historical Society and the Elks National Foundation, will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Attendees will arrive at the Historical Society, 224 E. Seventh Ave., Tarentum, receive the password and proceed to the side door entrance at the Tarentum Elks.

The 56 East Band will entertain and there will be a small buffet, beer and treats. 1920s apparel is optional. Admission at the door is $10.


Annual Walk for Hunger event seeks participants

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Walk for Hunger 2022 will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Heights Plaza in Natrona Heights, Harrison, near the UPMC Urgent Care. Participants are asked to bring one can of food or non-perishable item.

Walkers who collect between $100 and $199 will receive a free bowling pass. Those who collect $200 or more will receive two bowling passes. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Proceeds benefit the Association of Churches food bank, Produce to People and emergency hunger needs. For more information, call 724-226-0606.
