One person hit and killed by CapMetro train in Central Austin

AUSTIN, Texas —
One person was hit and killed by a CapMetro train in Central Austin Thursday night.

The Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Fire Department responded to the scene located near 1000 East 41 Street Unit 925 near the Hancock Center at 6:36 p.m.
Capital Metro confirmed to CBS Austin that one of their trains was involved in the collision.
The initial assessment indicates the pedestrian was in the right of way of the MetroRail train," a CapMetro spokesperson said in a statement. "Per procedure, there will be an investigation into the incident. We will continue to monitor the situation and share new information as we are able.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
CapMetro said that it will use buses to transport any impacted customers to their destinations while rail services are impacted by the investigation.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
