All-CNY wrestling standout commits to Army

Senior Sam Sorenson, a star on the Homer wrestling team, committed to the Army’s wrestling squad on Thursday.

The Knights are a Division I program that competes in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. The program has sent at least four competitors to the NCAA Championships in the past four seasons,

His commitment was posted on the Friends of Homer Wrestling Facebook page.

Sorenson is coming off a 2021-22 campaign in which he compiled a 47-0 mark and captured Section III and New York State Division II titles in the 215-pound weight class.

In three seasons for the Trojans, Sorenson has a career record of 115-16, two sectional titles and a state trophy. He also grabbed Wyoming 3A and Journeyman/Rudis New York state championship crowns last year.

Sorenson is also the leading rusher for the undefeated Homer football team, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry.
