DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are searching for a man who they believed robbed dollar stores at gunpoint two days in a row last week.

The suspect first struck, according to police, around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, when he walked up to the counter at the Family Dollar on Grand River Avenue near Greenfield Road and pulled out a gun.

He then grabbed the cashier, a 42-year-old woman, by the apron and demanded money from the cash register. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

About 24 hours later the suspect struck again, less than two miles away. Police officials say he walked into a Family Dollar on Schoolcraft, just west of the Southfield Freeway and pulled a gun on another cashier.

Police officials say the suspect demanded cash from the 57-year-old victim, then fired a shot in the air, before fleeing on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

Authorities believe the same suspect is involved in both armed robberies.

The suspect is described as about 5-foot-10 to 6-feet-tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black ski mask that covers his face but shows his eyes, black gloves with a white logo, black sweatpants and old, worn black Timberland boots.
