Deputies responded to a long-term care facility on Briarcliff Drive in the Darlington area to a deceased person on Sept. 21, according to a release from Major David Young with Darlington County Sheriff's Office.
According to arrest warrants, Brian Anthony James, who was an employee at the facility, failed to provide the care necessary to maintain the victim's health and safety.
James was charged with abuse or neglect resulting in the death of a vulnerable adult.
This facility is regulated by the South Carolina Dept. of Disabilities and Special Needs.
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by SLED’s Vulnerable Adult Unit as well as the South Carolina Dept. of Disabilities and Special Needs.
The case is still under investigation.
