With a political career already full of attention-grabbing statements and actions, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said during a televised interview that he believed major news outlets across the country wanted Hurricane Ian to take out Tampa.

"You have national regime media" that wanted the Sunshine State to be Ian's target “because they thought that would be worse for Florida. That’s how these people think," DeSantis said.

"I mean, they don’t care about the people of the state. They don’t care about the people of this community. They want to use storms and destruction from storms as a way to advance their agenda," the governor continued. "And they don’t care what destruction is in their wake. They don’t care about the lives here. If they can use it to pursue their political agenda, they will do it."

Meanwhile, DeSantis and President Joe Biden appeared to put partisan politics aside for the moment as they met to discuss federal aid for the parts of Florida ravaged by Ian.

"Today we have one job and only one job, and that’s to make sure the people in Florida get everything they need to fully, thoroughly recover," Biden said yesterday with DeSantis standing behind him.
