A Jersey City fugitive from justice made herself easy to find.
She applied for a job with the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, the law enforcement agency that specializes in picking people wanted for outstanding warrants.
Zyeama Y. Johnson, 27, was charged with being a fugitive from justice on Tuesday, county Sheriff Frank Schillari said. She was wanted by authorities in Monroe County, Pennsylvania for failure to appear in court on charges of fraud and an additional 10 bench warrants for failure to appear in court on traffic charges in Jersey City.
She had applied for employment as a security guard with the sheriff’s office, Schillari said. After the validity of the warrants was confirmed, Johnson was called in under the impression it was for a job interview and she was taken into custody, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said..
During the routine inventory of Johnson’s property following her arrest, sheriff’s officers discovered that she was in possession of two credit cards believed to be stolen, and she was subsequently charged with credit card theft, Schillari said.
Schillari said the United States Postal Investigative Service has also launched an investigation, since Johnson previously worked for the postal service. She is currently being held in Hudson County jail in Kearny awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.
