Man broke into home, stabbed owner multiple times, prosecutor says

A man was indicted Thursday in connection with the home invasion attack of a Seaside Park resident earlier this year, authorities said.

Porfirio Serrano-Cruz, 39, of Seaside Heights, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of attempted murder, burglary, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and weapons-related offenses, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Seaside Park Police officers were called to an O Street home at 5:15 a.m. on June 30 after a man called them and said someone had broken into his home and tried to kill him, the office said.

Officers arrived and found a 39-year-old man with stab wounds on his arms, chest, abdomen and groin, officials said. He was air-lifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment and was treated and released.

On the same day of the attack, Serrano-Cruz was arrested in Seaside Heights, the office said. He has been held in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest. Attorney information was not immediately available.

Officials did not release an alleged motive for the attack.
