DES PLAINES, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Countless businesses permanently closed during the pandemic - especially restaurants, but a nostalgic diner in Des Plaines is back up and running again.

More than a year after he thought the Choo Choo would reopen, Owner Dale Eisenberg said they’re back serving up food to kids - and adults - using model electric trains.

"What's really interesting

"We have been very busy at different times. The weekends are very strong."

Eisenberg has also been busy with another venture - connecting veterans with businesses looking for new ownership like his friend Lynn Lowder, a Vietnam War veteran, who took over the Two Toots Restaurant in Naperville and made it Rosie’s Home Cookin'.

"He told me he's never enjoyed anything in his life as much as he's doing now."

The Choo Choo reopened last month with less seating after Eisenberg removed booths near the windows to make more room for customers waiting to get a seat at the counter.
