Dodgers News: Chris Martin Bought In to LA Coaching Staff Input Immediately

It can’t be understated how big of a turnaround it has been for Chris Martin since joining the Dodgers in August. It’s something you don’t normally see from a 36-year-old pitcher, but the Dodgers know how to “coach up” their requisition projects.

Whether it’s part of the winning culture or just being around the right group of guys, Martin has taken it all in stride. With the White Sox, the righty was pitching a 4.31 ERA through 34 games.

In 25 games with the Dodgers, Martin has pitched a 1.52 ERA with 34 strikeouts and just one walk. The numbers don’t lie and Chris has been a key contributor in the bullpen for the Dodgers that will most likely be utilized during the postseason.

To join the hottest team in baseball can come with its distractions, but Martin quickly acclimated to the culture and is prepared for a deep postseason run (quotes via Steve Henson, Los Angeles Times).

“You hear about the success rate they have here and it’s easy to be confident they are going to give you good information. Most of it came down to [catchers Will Smith and Austin Barnes], the guys behind the scenes communicating with them, how to use certain stuff, where to use it, when to use it. I bought in.”

It it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Martin has found the tools needed to perfect his craft and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

He will surely make an impact when his name is called upon and the team needs him most.
