Boomer wants Mets to pitch Jacob deGrom in Wild Card Game 2 no matter what

Max Scherzer is pitching Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series for the Mets on Friday, and Boomer & Gio agree that as Buck Showalter said, he’s one of several good options.

There is question, however, about the rotation beyond that, with the thought being that the Mets might use Chris Bassitt in Game 2 if they win Game 1, and hope for a sweep to save Jacob deGrom for potentially two starts in the NLDS against the Dodgers.

“Let’s say they lose Game 1, it’s deGrom in Game 2 – he’s pitching any sort of elimination game,” Boomer said. “But my thing is this, take care of business when you can take care of business. I just want to win, and I want to win as quickly as possible, put my best foot forward to do that, and then worry about the next series when it comes.”

You see, Boomer wants to go for the jugular.

“Let’s say the Mets win 3-1 on Friday – you don’t pick your foot up off of their throat and throw somebody other than deGrom,” Boomer said.

“I don’t think he’s doing this, or thinking about doing this, because he’s taking things for granted,” Gio replied.

Maybe, but Boomer knows it’s not just Buck’s call.

“There’s no way he’s making this decision on his own, if in fact that is the decision,” Boomer said.

Still, he wants to implore the Mets to not even think about saving deGrom no matter what.

“I still think it’s stupid – you just have to take every game all unto itself, and you have to give your team the best shot to win every game, and not worry about the next set of circumstances – figure out what you’re going to do when you get to the next round. You have two Hall of Fame pitchers, you use them back-to-back in this series and try to win the series right away.”
