Syracuse, N.Y. - A Syracuse man was arrested after he broke into a woman’s home and threatened to shoot her in the head Sunday, police said.
Officers responded to a call in the 100 block of Mary Street around 4:37 p.m, where Teresa L. Simone, 60 of Syracuse, reported a man with a gun outside her home was trying to break in, the Syracuse Police Department reported on its Facebook page.
Carmen C. Franklin, 31, kicked in the backdoor of the home before entering, police said. He pushed Simone to the ground, punched her in the face several times and threatened to shoot her in the head, they said.
Prior to breaking into the home, Franklin called Simone and threatened to shoot her, police said.
When officers arrived, Franklin was found walking out the backdoor of the home, police said. When Franklin noticed the officers, he ran back inside, they said.
Franklin was found walking up the steps to the basement, where officers found a 9mm Springfield Armory Hellcat handgun he attempted to hide, police said.
The gun contained one round in the chamber and 13 rounds in the magazine, according to the release.
Franklin was charged with:
- First-degree burglary
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal possession of a firearm
- Fourth-degree criminal mischief
- Second-degree menacing
- Second-degree aggravated harassment
Franklin was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center, was arraigned and has since been released.
