NORTH CHARLESTON — Authorities identified the 29-year-old man who was killed in a suspected drive-by shooting.

Dominque B. Whitehead died Oct. 5 from a gunshot wound, Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers said.

North Charleston police officers responded just after 2:30 p.m. to a home at Hunters Ridge and Peppertree lanes off Ashley Phosphate Road, said spokesman Harve Jacobs. They found Whitehead and two other men. All had been shot.

Whitehead died at the scene. The other victims were taken to a hospital and were in stable condition, Jacobs said. One of the injured men is 24 years old, according to an incident report. Neither has been publicly identified.

Someone called police officers and told them a vehicle had turned right onto Hunter Ridge Lane. Two people began shooting at a group of men gathered in the rear of the property, the report states.

Detectives believe the gunfire came from inside the vehicle, Jacobs said. They're working to identify suspects. No arrests have been made.
