Eldon man charged in Cooper County after bar fight

BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Eldon man faces criminal charges in Cooper County after a bar fight in August.

The Cooper County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Preston M. C. Brown on Wednesday with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Brown is accused of stabbing another man at Deon's Bar in Pilot Grove early in the morning on Aug. 8.

Cooper County deputies responded to the bar just before 2:30 a.m. for a report of a fight. Witnesses at the scene reportedly told deputies that someone was stabbed during a fight between Brown and another man.

Deputies later responded to Cooper County Fire District Station No. 1 for a report of a man with a stab wound to his arm. The injury would require surgery, according to court documents.

During an interview with deputies, Brown said the fight started after another man put a beer bottle to his chest and poked him. Brown alleged he stabbed the victim after he realized he was outnumbered and put into a headlock.

On Aug. 12, deputies interview the victim about the fight. The victim told deputies he tried to break up the fight.

Brown was not in custody Thursday. Bond was set at $7,500.
