Do you think its true that certain soaps attract certain types of viewers?

Are females and gay men more likely to watch soaps than straight males?

Older people more inclined to watch Corrie and Emmerdale. People in their mid twenties and thirties more likely to watch EastEnders. Teenagers more likely to watch Hollyoaks. Is this true?

I'm gay and mid thirties and only watch EastEnders :D

What is it about the soaps that seems to attract certain demographics. Why would someone in their seventies be more inclined to watch Corrie than EastEnders.

Hollyoaks - Teen and young adults and those that grew up but still stay out if loyalty. A few older people like it too!

Eastenders- Fans that still take soaps serious and use this soap as a form of pedestal. I would say the middle age watch this but young adults become casual viewers to see Phil and his bat etc.

Coronation Street - The old guard out of loyalty. Teens if an explosion, serial killer or topical story is in the works.

Emmerdale - I have no idea.

I've always thought EE is more of a manly soap for some reason 😁

Well manly is probably not the right word but I think it probably attracted a lot of men back in the gangster/Steve Owen, Dan Sullivan era. Also the Mitchell brothers

I am old, live in the south and only watch Emmerdale and occasionally Coronation Street.

Thats another thing, that soaps in the north attract northerners and soaps in the south attract southerners.

I don't think age is a factor. personally. It's more to do with whether the storylines are interesting enough and the characters are liked.

I'm in my early twenties and I like Corrie and Emmerdale. I also watch classic episodes on youtube. I would probably like Eastenders if I got into it but I don't want to commit to three soaps. I don't like Hollyoaks as a whole but I like certain characters so I catch up on them from a YouTube channel that uploads the scenes of the characters I like.

I'm 38 and only watch Hollyoaks these days, I started watching it when I was 15 and these days it's out of habit more than anything else.

You're only as old as the man that you feel. 😀 I've never seen it. If you are then I'm definitely too old for it.😉
