Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts is now accepting endorsements for his re-election to a fourth term on the Inglewood City Council.
His campaign slogan “Promises Kept, Results You can See” has some residents scratching their heads.
Are the “promises kept” referring to residents or his campaign donors?
Most of the heavy hitters have had their way with the council since 2014. Whether its returning the NFL, expanding Metro on a train track Inglewood residents had shut down, or paying to park in front of our homes, or paying legal fees for multiple lawsuits related to his personal behavior, Inglewood didn’t ask for any of that.
“Even if we don’t agree with the projects we still vote unanimously.”
Councilman Alex Padilla
His re-election is now painting him as a “family man” citing his being a husband, father, and grandfather as if we haven’t all read the text messages between him and his former aide admitting to stalking her, being under her car looking for water leaks and professing his undying love for her. He was doing this through Super Bowl, long after she separated from the City.
We have watched him terrorize residents. Run the treasurer from her seat and apparently Inglewood police officers are fed up too and are leaving en masse for other agencies or retirement.
And once again he is using taxpayer funded videos (2022 State of the City) to promote on his campaign page which is against the law because it has the City seal on it.
He did the same during his 2015 re-election when he mailed out a taxpayer funded DVD to voters. When he was called out on it, during a District 1 Town Hall meeting, they chanted for him to “get out”.
Inglewood ain’t Mayberry.
Property values have risen to astronomical amounts, but, with the market resetting to account for inflation, will those gains remain constant? Sellers homes are languishing on the market and in an effort to deceive buyers, realtors are removing the listings, then reactivating them to reduce the number of days they been on the market.
Let’s talk about all the digital billboards around the City with many of them not even functioning particularly the one in front of Smart and Final and Carlton Square. They’ve been erected and have never been turned on. The city did hold a special city council meeting Oct. 4 to extend the agreements for the boards on LaCienega.
So far the mayor has lined up the endorsements of the entire city council, and if you look close enough he has Councilman Alex Padilla standing in front of a book titled “Taxes for Dummies”.
Mysteriously only four of the five County Supervisors have endorsed him, notably absent is Sheila Kuehl. #GooglePeaceOverViolence
He has the support of rappers Snoop Dogg and D-Smoke but you haven’t seen him pictured with either of them in ages.
Somehow he finagled Karen Bass as a supporter for the first time, while Maxine Waters is notably absent from the page.
What do these people value in a leader to justify endorsing Butts?
He’s FINALLY managed to get the support from the Inglewood police unions but that didn’t come until AFTER their employment contracts were approved with a 22% raise over three years.
If you are a long-term Inglewood resident like this author the only results you see are the selfish actions of this council that omits public input on what is going on here.
Butts has also coerced the council into suppression of their thoughts on projects just to give off the facade they agree when they vote unanimously ad nauseum.
There are NO independent voices on the Inglewood City Council. They do what the mayor tells them to do.
Based on what you see, would you endorse Mayor Butts for a fourth term? Let him know Nov. 8.

This mayor has a such a disdain for his constituents. Why even have the public participation portion of the city council meetings, if you refuse to answer the resident’s questions? Unless you’re kissing his butt, he seems frustrated and annoyed with the community. One lady called in and asked why doesn’t he have town hall meetings for the constituents to meet and ask him questions. He ignored her and moved on. He ignores the callers OFTEN.
It’s up to the residents to end the dictatorship and vote him out. Butts is arrogant. Remove him as mayor ASAP!
That’s an excellent idea he does not know longer need to be the mayor of Inglewood
How any yes ANY female politicians can endorse someone with so many zipper lack of control issues, is baffling.
Yes we know Maxine’s hubby is a football devotee but still as the outspoken woman known for raising her voice her silence about Butt’s womanizing statements and disrespect for the first amendment is inexcusable!
Likewise for the Board of Supervisors who should have said No to the Stadium opening during Covid while our city hall remains closed to the Public.
At least for this voter no female elected shoulg endorse the multiple bad behaviors from telling a woman to go choke herself, to suing a community member for his exercising First Amendment Rights,
Fellow elected should never forget their vote is to be cast as if representing the constituency not the Mayor’s personal wishes.
Each of those who gave up their voice should be replaced,
Consider the significance of Alex Padilla’s comments – no matter what he believes he does as Butt’s tells him ….How many times was justice denied when Alex was a Police Officer while Butt’s was Chief. How many cases of abuse of force allegations have been shredded because Jimmie had made sure some one paid for not pleasing him?
and as for that family man image – Let us not forget Good Parenting should not teach physical violence is the way to settle rental disputes, nor is having a intimate girlfriend while still married a positive example of a faithful husband..
No I’m not voting for James T. Butts or anyone that’s on the Inglewood city council they have not done anything for the residents
