Aftershock ready to rumble in Sacramento over next 4 days
More than three hours before the gates were set to open Thursday, dozens of music fans were already lining up for the return of what is billed as California's largest music festival.
Aftershock 2022 is back in Sacramento for the 10th year.
"We're so excited to be celebrating our 10th anniversary, four full days. We've expanded to a fourth stage and we have almost 100 bands this year. It's going to be the biggest Aftershock on record," said Chamie McCurry, chief marketing officer of Danny Wimmer Presents.
Slipknot, KISS, My Chemical Romance and Muse are among the headlining bands, which include multiple international acts.
This year's event at Discovery Park includes no COVID-19-related requirements, although organizers advise festivalgoers to prepare for security screenings.
Visit Sacramento estimates that last year's event, which recorded a record number of ticket holders, generated an estimated $30 million impact for the local economy.
"To have a festival like this expand to four days generates momentum to attract and grow other events," said Kari Miskit of Visit Sacramento. "There are people traveling from long distances to attend this event and they eat in our restaurants, stay in our hotels and impact business in Sacramento."

The success of Aftershock is also leading to another first, said McCurry. Next weekend, the organizers will host Golden Sky Festival, a two-day event featuring Tim McGraw and Sam Hunt.
