Sterling Heights woman busted for drunk driving after leaving sports bar

Breath test showed driver had 3 times over legal limit

A 55-year-old Sterling Heights woman was recently arrested by Troy police for driving with three times the legal limit to be considered intoxicated.

Police said the incident took place about 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 near the area of Elliott Street and Robbins Drive, in the area of John R  Road between Maple and 14 Mile roads.

According to police, a motorist called to report a possible drunk driver. While officers were on their way, the caller reported the vehicle had stopped in the parking lot behind 650 John R.

Officers arrived and located the suspect driver with the vehicle’s engine running and in drive. They said the woman had bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of intoxicants comingfrom her.

“When asked, the driver admitted to having 2-3 drinks at a nearby sports bar prior to driving,” police said in a statement.

They added the driver was so drunk, they did not even attempt to administer field sobriety evaluations.

The driver submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of 0.279%. In Michigan, a blood-alcohol level of  0.08% is considered intoxicated.

Mobile Health was called to the scene to transport the driver to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospitaldue to her high level of intoxication.

A search warrant to complete a blood draw was prepared and granted. The driver’s blood was drawn by medical personnel at Royal Oak Beaumont.

The case has been turned over to the Detective Bureau for an arrest warrant once the blood resultsare returned.
