NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police are searching for the group wanted in a string of burglaries across Brooklyn and Queens.

Video shows them breaking into a business in East New York on Sept. 13.

Police say they stole an ATM filled with $7,000 and a cash register -- but that wasn't enough. Investigators say they ran off with the store owner's dog too.

The owner, who only wanted to be identified as Angel, said the burglars also took $3,000 from the cash register and $13,000 in merchandise.

The good news is Angel was reunited with his dog Rocco less than 24 hours after he was taken.

He said Rocco, his companion of five years, was dropped off at a local animal shelter. But he does not know by whom.

The same group is believed to be behind at least four other similar burglaries that happened between September 1 and September 15.

In all, police say they've gotten away with more than $43,000 in cash, and tens of thousands more in stolen items.

Jose Mercado said he was surprised to see the gates of his shop opened when he showed up to work on Sept. 1. Police say the thieves used bolt cutters to break through gates and each time they got away in a white van.

Police hope surveillance video will help catch the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
