Shocking photos taken from the International Space Station (ISS) show Florida ‘shedding’ massive amounts of water it took on after Hurricane Ian made landfall last week.
Astronaut Bob Hines snapped the images showing Florida ‘shedding’ the massive amounts of water it took on after Hurricane Ian made landfall on Sept. 28.
Hines is currently serving as a pilot for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-4 mission on the International Space Station.
“This picture shows how the Florida peninsula is shedding all the water #HurricanIan dumped on it,” Hines tweeted. “This was taken approx 2 days after it made landfall. Ian sure churned up the waters of the Gulf of Mexico!”
Hurricane Ian has officially made near Cayo Costa, in southwestern Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Landfall occurred along the southwestern coast of Florida near Cayo Costa around 3:05 pm EDT with winds near 150 mph, making Ian a high-end Category 4 hurricane.
Last Thursday morning, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno took a tour of Lee County to begin assessing the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.
“We are devastated. Our hearts go out to every resident who is impacted. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is mobile and will stop at nothing to help our residents,” said Marceno.
“We will get through this together. We are one community and we will overcome this tragedy,” Marceno added.
