A New Jersey woman was arrested in Manhattan with 15,000 “rainbow fentanyl” pills that she hid in packages put inside a LEGO box, according to reports.
This is the biggest bust of the drug in New York City to date. Philly Voice reported, the bust serves as a sign “colorfully branded version of the deadly synthetic opioid” has a larger distribution.
And according to officials from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, “rainbow fentanyl” is often disguised as other drugs.
Lateesha Bush, 48 from Trenton, NJ was busted on Sept. 28 in Lincoln Tunnel on the Manhattan side. Investigators were reportedly doing surveillance. Said surveillance is part of an ongoing narcotics trafficking investigation.
According to authorities, Bush entered a car at 475 10th Avenue in Manhattan. She was carrying a black tote bag covering a huge object.
Two black tote bags and a LEGO container were found when investigators stopped the car, with Bush in the backseat. In the container, there were many brick-shaped packages wrapped in black tape, surrounded by LEGO blocks.
The tape on one of the containers was partially torn, which showed the rainbow pills inside of the package.
With testing, the pills were revealed to be rainbow fentanyl, an opioid connected to over 66% of the country’s overdose deaths, which stood at 107,622 in 2021.
