Four officers with the Orleans Levee District have been arrested and are facing numerous charges of alleging fraud.

The four are accused of taking off duty security shifts and then not showing up.

The jobs were for shifts at the New Orleans Yacht Club or in Lake Vista subdivision.

Among those arrested, Sergeant Noel Sanders, who is facing charges of fraud, theft under $1000, and malfeasance in office.  He reportedly billed the yacht club for three shifts though he was at home at the time.

Three other officers were booked on like charges and are accused of showing up for the shifts, then quickly leaving the paid shifts at Lake Vista.

Court records obtained by the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate says amount of the alleged fraud are relatively small sums of money overall.  Evidence was gathered through the review of surveillance and crime cameras.  Reportedly the officers were located far from the job sites during several shifts they were supposed to be working.

“We are cooperating fully with the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office in this matter,” the district said in a statement. “Any levee district officer implicated in criminal wrongdoing will be suspended from duty pending investigation and subsequent determination of the appropriate disciplinary action.”

It is not known if the officers were suspended with or without pay.
