A preliminary examination has been adjourned till next month for a woman accused of driving into a group of bicyclists on a charity tour, killing two of them including an Oakland County attorney.

Mandy Benn, 43, is charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death/operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance for the July 30 crash in mid-Michigan’s Ionia County that took the life of Bloomfield Hills attorney Michael Salhaney, 57,  an attorney from Bloomfield Hills, and Edward Erickson, 48, of Ann Arbor.

She’s also charged with operating while intoxicated/operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and operating while intoxicated-second offense, both misdemeanors.

Salhaney and Erickson were in a group of five bicyclists participating in a Make-A-Wish Bicycle Tour charity ride when Benn allegedly slammed her vehicle into them while attempting to pass a UPS box truck. The other three bicyclists were injured.

The preliminary exam is scheduled to be held Nov. 10 before 64th District Judge Raymond Voet, who will be presented with testimony and other evidence — likely a toxicology report — to determine if there’s probable cause for the case to move forward.

Benn, who reportedly showed signs of intoxication at the scene, had no alcohol in her system when tested after the crash but admitted she is prescribed adderall and suboxone — used to treat opioid addiction. Police reportedly found Benzodiazepine in her vehicle.

Benn is jailed on a $1 million bond.
