ARMADA (WWJ) -- Drugs were likely a factor, according to investigators, in a fatal two-vehicle crash late Wednesday night in Northern Macomb County's Armada Township.

One person, identified as an adult male, was killed in the crash at around 10:30 p.m., in the intersection of Romeo Plank Rd. and 33 Mile Rd.

Deputies with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from a witnesses who spotted two damaged vehicles on the side of the road.

When deputies arrived on the scene they found a tan Lincoln MKZ that had been split in half, according to the sheriff's office.

The front half of the car was in the intersection, the rear half was off the side of the road in a wooded area, and the driver was dead, officials said.

The second vehicle involved — a silver Chevy pickup truck, that also had major damage" — was in a ditch on east side of Romeo Plank, south of 33 Mile.

The driver of the pickup, a 21-year-old Romeo man, had gotten out of the truck and was walking around the scene.

The sheriff's office said it's believe that the pickup was headed southbound on Romeo Plank, and the Lincoln was headed westbound on 33 Mile when they collided in the intersection.

There is a stop sign for both east and west 33 Mile Rd., officials noted.

With the investigation is still ongoing. the sheriff's office said investigators believe "speed and drugs may have played a factor" in the crash.

The name of the man who died is being withheld at this time until he can be positively identified, and his family is notified.
