Donald “Don” B. Scott, age 90, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022.

Don dedicated his life to God many years ago and was a dedicated member of Crossview Christian Church in Waynesville. In addition, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. In his early years, he owned and operated the Town Square Restaurant in Waynesville, where he met his wife, Wanda. Together, they started a small donut shop in Springboro called Don’s Donuts, which they operated for several years. In the following years, they sold their Springboro donut shop and moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, where they owned and operated another donut shop for the next 25 years, from 1981 until 2006. Ultimately, due to Don’s close connection to his family, they moved back home to Ohio.

Family-oriented, generous, outgoing, caring, encouraging, and always smiling, Don loved people and made friends quickly. He was always busy doing something and could fix or build just about anything. During his life, especially his younger days, he was a builder, an excavator, and performed trench work. He enjoyed building houses and other projects so much that it became unclear whether it was a hobby or an occupation. Some of his earliest projects made him feel like he’d always be in debt, especially a house near Crossview that he built for a whopping $12,000. In addition, he also enjoyed buying old utility trailers and fixing them up for resale and profit. Don enjoyed raising pigs and cattle for a while during their years in Tennessee. Tinkering in his woodshed and raising chickens were also some of his hobbies of late. Donuts, however, was his passion and joy, which he loved doing with his wife. People still talk about and miss Don’s Donut and Coffee Shop in Clarksville, Tennessee. He became known for how giving he was to local schools, churches, and community events, the quality of his donuts, and his big smile and happy personality when customers stopped by. Don and Wanda also enjoyed traveling via their motorhome, whereby they visited every continental state except Washington. They also enjoyed a trip to the Cayman Islands with friends and several cruises, most notably a ten-night cruise to Alaska.

With a deep faith in God, Don and Wanda had a tradition where they tried to ensure they spent the lunch hour at home together to pray and enjoy each other’s company. He also had a tradition of visiting the Harveysburg Marathon for coffee and fellowship with his friends each Monday through Saturday morning, reserving Sunday for church. Born into a large family, Don was one of ten children born to Ursa and Gertrude Scott. For the 4th of July holiday, Don would join his family at his brother Marvin’s home to celebrate the day with a pig roast and fireworks, which Don looked forward to every year. Being family-oriented, his close connection with his siblings, his wife, his children, and his numerous extended family members gave him the most pride in his long and full life.

His parents and two brothers, Jerry and Bill Scott, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wanda; five children, Greg (Sapphira) Scott, Alan (Sherry) Scott, Lynn (Scott) Witt, Scott (Barbara) Woollard, and Troy Woollard; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; three brothers, Arvie Scott, Marvin (Marilyn) Scott, and Pete (Beverly) Scott; and four sisters, Darlene Lamb, Treva Soale, Joyce Winnans, and Alice Brandenburg.

The family will receive friends 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday, October 10, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service with military honors will immediately follow the visitation at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
