Legendary New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been around the NFL for a long time and has seen a lot of different players at every position. But as the Patriots prepare to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday, one particular player stands out at a position most probably wouldn’t expect – punter Jack Fox.

According to Belichick, Fox is “the best punter in the league,” and it’s not just due to his big leg. Belichick was also impressed with Fox’s arm during last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks when he completed a six-yard pass from well behind the line of scrimmage.

“Fox is a weapon. He is a weapon: kickoff, punt, punt for accuracy, punt for distance, can throw it like a quarterback. That was a long throw, 15 yards deep, good coverage and he put it right there,” Belichick said of Fox, according to Will Burchfield of 97.1 The Ticket. “Best punter in the league. He’s outstanding.”

While Belichick calls Fox the best in the league, he hasn’t had that many chances to showcase his talent lately, punting just five times over the past two weeks.

Belichick will likely hope to see plenty of Fox on Sunday because it would mean that his team is getting plenty of stops against a strong Lions offense.
