Daniel Barenboim’s withdrawal from concert life for several months is going to cause much rescheduling.

His first concerts, with the Staatskapelle Berlin, are on October 23 and 24.

The Statsoper has rustled up Lorenzo Viotti, chief of Dutch National Opera, to take over.

Viotti wears a Bulgari watch (see promo pic) and he’s only 32.

  • Paul Johnson says:

He conducted a great Mahler 3 with the Berliner Philharmoniker as a stand in. He doesn’t need to do the half naked poses on Instagram. Maybe he should wear his sponsors logo when he conducts.

    • Siegfried says:

His Mahler 3 with the Berlin Philharmoniker was indeed fantastic. The audience were reluctant to let him leave at the end,

  • Peter X says:

    Hmmm…could this be jealousy?

  • rentayenta says:

Probably inherited the watch from his Dad, Marcello Viotti

  • Mock Mahler says:

Quite the heartthrob, if he does say so himself (see his Instagram).

  • Gustavo says:

Only a golden Rolex makes you a real conductor.

  • Aleximor says:

Is there any reason why 32-year old shouldn’t wear a Bulgari watch?

  • musicoverimage says:

Wearing a Bulgari watch is no guarantee of a musicians time keeping – otherwise we could all sit on the top of Big Ben and conduct the world!

    • musicoverimage says:

To the ‘thumbs down’, I’m just playing with words…have a sense of humour – you’d need it in the music business !!

  • Marilena Volosinovici says:

What has Rolex or Bulgari to do with conducting? Actually I don’t like Rolex watches and definitely not interested in Bulgari… This is not about design or how well he knows his time is it? Let’s hear some good music.

  • Tamino says:

I heard Bulgari is a good brand for creating young Instagram followers in Russia. So young Viotti is doing everything right of what matters these days.
Can’t wait for his Instagram posts of that other guy who’s arrogance and vanity is even bigger than his considerable talent, that clarinet guy… forgot his name.

    • Achim Mentzel says:

For sure you mean Andreas Ottensammer. A respectable clarinetist, but a total air pump as a so-called conductor. It is generally the problem with all these super soloists who let their instrument slide and take the baton in hand to satisfy their lust for power and importance. Nobody needs all these Tjeknavorjans, Rachlins, Braunsteins and Kavakoses. They only produce garbage in the profession of orchestra conducting.
