CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police (VSP) troopers said a man is “very, very lucky to be alive” after a shooting on Interstate 95 early Thursday morning.
The shooting occurred on I-95 northbound near Woods Edge Road around 2 a.m. According to State Police, the 31-year-old male victim was driving north on I-95, when he passed a four-door silver car. As he was passing, the man told police that someone inside the car began shooting out of the window at him.
The suspect reportedly then sped away on I-95, leaving the victim’s silver Chevrolet sedan with several gunshots on the driver’s side.
The victim was “grazed” by a bullet and left with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police said he was treated and released at the scene.
Troopers said this is the second interstate shooting in the past five days. A teenage girl was hospitalized after being shot on I-64 in Newport News on Saturday. She’s expected to recover.
Thursday morning’s incident marks the 15th interstate shooting so far in 2022 in VSP’s Richmond Division, and the 51st such shooting statewide. In 2021, there were 30 interstate shootings to which VSP responded and investigated in the Richmond Division, according to a spokesperson.
