ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The mild and dry weather pattern continues across Southwest and Central Virginia for the next couple of days.

High pressure will remain a dominant part of the forecast Thursday, resulting in a cool morning and milder afternoon. You’ll probably need a coat or jacket during the morning hours as temperatures will start in the chilly 40s. A few passing clouds are possible during the day. Overall, mostly sunny skies will be overhead with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 60s and into the mid-70s.

A weak front will move through Friday. Little moisture will be associated with this front, so rain chances are low. A few light mountain rain showers cannot be ruled out, though. It will be breezy at times under partly to mostly sunny skies. In the Alleghany Highlands and New River Valley, highs will be in the mid-60s and close to the 70-degree mark. The Roanoke Valley, Central Virginia, and Southside can expect afternoon highs in the warmer middle and upper 70s.

Cooler and drier air will filter in behind the passing front for the weekend. A good deal of sunshine is in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, but high temperatures will range from the 50s into the mid-60s. Morning temperatures will be on the chilly side, too. There will definitely be a chill in the air if you’re planning on heading to any of the fall festivals in Southwest and Central Virginia.

The clear skies and calm winds overnight Saturday into Sunday morning will allow temperatures to fall into the lower and middle 30s. Some higher elevations may drop below the freezing mark. There is the potential for frost, so be prepared to protect your plants.

It will be a chilly start to Monday, but not as cold as Sunday morning. Mostly sunny skies will continue to stick around in the forecast for the beginning of next week. There will be some south/southwesterly flow to start the week, which will allow temperatures to rebound. Highs for Monday and Tuesday will be in the 60s and lower 70s.
