Mountain estate hits market as most expensive home listing in Carolinas

LINVILLE, N.C. — An estate within a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Charlotte that offers sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains came on the market this week with a price of nearly $30 million. The property in Linville, some 110 miles from Charlotte, is said to even offer views of uptown from its perch on a ridge top up 5,000 feet.

That’s according to listing agent Marilyn Wright with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. She described the home and its surrounding property as ideal for entertaining.

“The views are unbelievable — sunrises over Grandfather Mountain, spectacular sunsets, views of downtown Charlotte would be at the top of the list. Every feature and work of art was so detailed in design,” Wright said. She is based in the firm’s Asheville office.

Called Lazy Bear Lodge, the $29.75 million listing represents the most expensive home currently on the market in both North Carolina and South Carolina, according to Premier Sotheby’s. The estate on Flattop Cliffs Drive is in Linville Ridge Country Club — near Grandfather Mountain and about 17 miles southwest of Boone.
