ITZY Ryujin & Yeji Mention Idol Couple Crush & Red Velvet Joy During Live Stream
On October 4, ITZY member Ryujin held a live stream through Naver's V Live. Leader Yeji joined ITZY's center. There, they read fans' comments and interacted with them live. One of the things that got mentioned was a famous idol couple.

During the live stream, Ryujin read a fan's comment that stated, "Crush who has to pay more taxes." Yeji seemed confused at the statement, asking what they meant. Ryujin simply replied, "Joy sunbae-nim."
At the time, Korean internet users were joking that Crush has to pay more taxes since he "won the lottery" by dating Red Velvet member Joy.

Yeji still seemed confused, so Ryujin whispered in her ear, "Joy sunbae-nim. He is dating her, so..."
As Yeji continued to ask what the comment meant, Ryujin stated, "He has to pay more taxes. That is what people are saying. So that is why he has to pay more taxes."

After clips of the live stream made their rounds, Koreans slammed Ryujin for supposedly being insensitive. People thought her actions were careless, as it would spark an opportunity for others to start making fun of Crush and Joy's relationship.

Others believed that reading the comment was unnecessary, as it had nothing to do with ITZY or their fans. People pointed out that Yeji, who seemed happy just a moment ago, became serious at the mention of the idol couple. Some believed Ryujin should not have mentioned the couple, as she still has unconfirmed dating rumors with NCT's Haechan.

In response to the backlash, international fans trended #JYPEProtectRyujin. International MIDZYs are demanding JYP Entertainment pursue legal action against malicious comments against the female idol. Many are also using the hashtag to show their love for Ryujin.
The hashtag trended on Twitter, with thousands of tweets demanding action from her label. Fans are planning to mass email JYP Entertainment, and many are reminding MIDZYs who use Bubble to remind Ryujin that she did nothing wrong.
