West Genesee has put forth an efficient campaign on cross country courses this season.

That continued Wednesday when the Wildcats used depth on their boys and girls squads to top Liverpool and Nottingham.

“It was great team wins for our runners. They weren’t perfect performances, but both races went well, and the depth of the teams came through,” West Genesee coach Jim Vermeulen said.

The Wildcats boys’ team knocked off Liverpool (19-36) and Nottingham (20-41) and the girls’ squad won by scores of 15-51 over both Liverpool and Nottingham.

Chloe Fietze won the varsity girls’ race with a time of 20:24.6 for the Wildcats. Liverpool’s Meghan Moyer and Taylor Page both tied for second (20:44.6).

West Genesee had runners finish fourth through ninth. The Wildcats’ Peyton Long (20:55.8) and Zoe Maupin (21:47.9) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the boys’ race, Peter McMahon was victorious with a time of 17:00.1. In fact, the Wildcats’ boys team had five of its runners finish in the top 10. West Genesee’s Kevin Moser took second (17:12.3) and Michael Gomes grabbed fifth (17:52).

Nottingham’s Henry Zhe-Heimerman finished third (17:13.7) and Liverpool’s Michael Purvis came in fourth (17:48.7).

“We have a tough course, but we managed to have good finishes,” Vermeulen said.
