Chelsea's game against AC Milan was 'over after 70 minutes,' claims NBC soccer analyst Robbie Mustoe, as he slams the introduction of five substitutes in the Champions League

NBC analyst Robbie Mustoe has slammed the Champions League decision to allow teams to use five substitutions.

The substitution limit was initially changed from three to five, in 2020 as a way to deal with a jam-packed schedule following the Covid-19 outbreak.

'Yep, game over at Chelsea after 70 mins, both teams making loads of subs. Seeing this a lot. Not a fan of the extra subs available. Now we get a weird little 20 min game. Kettle on,' Mustoe tweeted.

Something often being seen in games that feature mass substitutions from both teams as the clock winds down.

The pundit took to twitter to make his feelings on the substitution limit clear

The game between Chelsea and Milan featured five subs in total around the 70th-minute mark alone.

If the subs made by both teams between the 60th and 70th minutes are counted, that bring the total to nine of 10 possible subs all made within the final 30 minutes of the game.

Blues boss Graham Potter brought on Conor Gallagher and Jorginho on in the 65th and 66th minute, before subbing Armando Broja and Kai Havertz ten minutes later.

Meanwhile, AC Milan brought on Matteo Gabbi and Ante Rebic in the 65th minute and made three changes on the 73rd-minute mark.

The lone sub not made was the one that took an injured Wesley Fofana off the field for Chelsea in the first half.

Mustoe made nearly 500 appearances during his career that saw him play across several divisions of English soccer.

The defensive midfielder played majority of his career for Middlesbrough, but also featured for Oxford, Charlton, and Sheffield.
