Marshall County Revenue Commissioner MichaelJohnson is reminding everyone thatOct.1is notjustthestartofthe2022propertytaxseason – italsobeginsthelastquartertoapplyfor2023tax year exemptions, to submit business personal property renditions, andto renew manufactured home registrations.

Property tax notices went out in the mail Friday.

“The law requires allapplications for exemptions from property taxesmust bemade beforeJan. 1of the next calendar year,”Johnson said. “Ifyou have bought a home, itisimportant to apply for your homesteadas soon as possible but certainly before the end ofthe year else itwillnot beapplied until the 2024 or later tax year.”

Youcan apply for a homestead exemption onyour primary residence, whichisexclusively single-family owner-occupied. 

“A common misconception isthat there is an age at which you no longer have topay property tax,” Johnson said.
