Police found murder weapon hidden in KC man's apartment

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing Saturday evening in the Northeast area of Kansas City, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

David F. Cornell, 61, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.

According to court records, Kansas City police officers responding October 1, to the 500 block of Gladstone Blvd. and found the victim, James Fisher, fatally injured in front of a residence.

He had been stabbed once in the neck. A witness told police that the Fisher and Cornell had been in a dispute. They appeared to exchange punches. Then the witness saw blood coming from Fisher and a blade in Cornell's hand.

Cornell hit the Fisher with the knife during their altercation. He told police he hid the knife after stabbing the Fisher. After obtaining a search warrant, police found a knife in Cornell's apartment. Prosecutors requested a $250,000 cash bond.
