National Walk to School Day promotes pedestrian safety
FROM CLASS. THE WALK WALKER EDMONDS ELEMENTARY IS ONE MILE OR 11 LAPS AROUND THE PLAYGROUND. ARE YOU GUYS HAVING FUN? YEAH. SOME KIDS LIKE MARCO KALALA, WALK TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY. THE FIFTH GRADER ALSO MAKE SURE HE AND HIS LITTLE BROTHER MAKE IT TO CLASS SAFELY. I MAKE SURE THAT HE WALKS THE SAFE SCHOOL BECAUSE I MAKE SURE THAT HE’S LEARNING AND MAKING SURE THAT HE WON’T, LIKE, TRY GETTING OUT OF SCHOOL OR JUST, LIKE WALKING HOME SAFE AND OTHER STUFF. THERE’S HOPE. THE WALK AROUND THE PLAYGROUND WILL TEACH KIDS THE IMPORTANCE OF PEDESTRIAN SAFETY, SUCH AS LOOKING TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT BEFORE CROSSING THE STREET. WE REALLY TEACH THE IMPORTANCE, ESPECIALLY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, TO ONLY WALK WHERE THE CROSSWALKS ARE. AND OBVIOUSLY YOU LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE YOU CROSS. STILL KIND OF A WORK IN PROGRESS. THERE’S SOME KIDS THAT JUST WANT TO RUN OUT AND GO HOME. BUT WE JUST WE REALLY JUST KEEP REINFORCING. IN THE EARLY MORNING DRIZZLE DIDN’T RAIN ON THEIR SPIRIT THE WALK OR RUN FOR SOME CHILDREN WAS A WAY TO STAY ACTIVE AND A GOOD REMINDER TO STAY ALERT WITH EVERY STEP INTO MY NICOLE T

Oct. 5 is National Walk to School Day. Students at Edmunds Elementary participated in a Walk to School activity where they walked (and ran) one mile, which is 11 laps around the playground."We really teach the importance, especially at the beginning of the school year, to only walk where the crosswalks are, and obviously look both ways before you cross," school teacher Nathan White said.The early morning drizzle didn't dampen their spirit. The students had a lot of fun staying active and learning about staying safe when they get out of school.
